Position Description: Network Designer

Location: National Capital Region (NCR)

Citizenship: US Citizenship required

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, Master’s degree preferred

Certification: Must have a DoD 8570 certification IAT-I, with a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or equivalent certification.

Experience: Minimum of 13 years’ experience in network communications industry.

Salary: Negotiable based on experience, education and qualifications.


Works with the engineering team Lead to support special projects including network equipment refresh, new site deployments, and new service offering rollout.

Provides backup support as needed to Network Operations Team to support emerging requirements.

Designs, plans, establishes, and optimizes networks and enterprise network architecture.

Develops network infrastructures and makes recommendations on systems enhancements for optimization.

Lead sand supervise teams.

Provides technical assessment of requirements and definitions from conception through implementation.

Trains and guides other engineers.

Designs and validates link performance, quality and reliability.

Uses measuring and diagnostic tools to test and adjust equipment.

Creates manuals and support documentation.

Optimizes existing network by adjusting network parameters, adding/deleting of neighbors and recommending possible solutions to hardware problems.


Must have a four-year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field.

Must have 13 years’ experience in network communications industry.

Must have a current DoD

Must have a DoD 8570 certification IAT-I

Must have a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or equivalent certification.

Must have expert level experience in LAN technologies (switches, routers, wireless and firewalls) including centralized monitoring and management in large-scale, high-availability environments.

Must have expert level experience in large scale LAN/WAN switching environments.

Must have expert level of experience in TCP/IP fundamentals.

Must have expert level experience with routing, network survey and deployment support.

Must have physical infrastructure experience.

Experience as a team member and leading and managing project teams required.

Strong oral and written communications skills

Strong planning skills, with an ability to design, develop and deliver high-quality plans created through collaboration.

Strong problem resolution skills.

Experience with communicating between Government customers, executives and senior leadership, and support management and staff.

Applicants must be self-motivated, enjoy a collaborative environment and be proficient in MS Office

Knowledge of Cisco, Brocade and Juniper products preferred

Working knowledge of Cisco products preferred.

Working knowledge of computer hardware/software fundamentals preferred.

Understanding of the design of voice and data communications systems, audio visual systems, electronic security systems, and/or other Information Transport Systems a plus.

Understanding of network engineering that includes wired and wireless transmissions, mapping and surveying, configuration of access points, antennas and related equipment, cabling infrastructure to support WLAN systems, client wireless configurations, operations and troubleshooting a plus.
